If he got x x marks in geography, then 120 % 120\% of x x is 90.

1.2 x = 90 \therefore 1.2x=90 x = 90 1.2 = 900 12 = 75 \Rightarrow x=\frac{90}{1.2}=\frac{900}{12}=\color{#0C6AC7}{\boxed{75}}
