What is the direction of frictional force between foot and ground while walking forward (Frictional force is the force which opposes the motion of a body on a surface)

When we walk forward, we will apply force on foot backward. So the friction opposes the force and make us to move with out sliding on surface. So the frictional force will be in the direction of walk
