NW 7km & SE 7km nullifies & 14km to west & 4 km to east that mean 10 km from starting point

Another simple way of solving this problem:

Let the first number be X Third number is 4 more than the first number i.e. X+4 Second number is 5 more than the three times of the third number i.e. 3(X+4)+5

Sum of all the three number is 16

i.e. X + X+4 + 3(X+4)+5 = 16

X + X + 4 + 3X + 12 + 5 = 16

5X + 21 = 16

5X = 16 - 21

5X = -5

X = -1
