Let 100 is the original price. So after deduction the price will be 80. Let x kg of rice can be bought on the original price. Therefore, according to question: 100*x=80(x+3) or, x=12 Therefore original price=360/12 = 30

Let original Price = X Discounted Price = 0.8X Total amount spent = $360 Qty bought with original price = 360/x Qty bought with discounted price = 360/0.8x (360/0.8x)-(360/x) = 3 (360/0.8) - 360 =3X 450-360=3x ------>3x = 90 -------->x=30

aah are you trying to match your solution to the answer? well tried!

let original price of the rice per kg be dollar x therefore, if he would have bought it for the original price , he would have got 360/x kg's of rice but the price is decreased by 20 % therefore new price of rice is dollar 0.8x per kg if he buys rice with the new price he would get 360/0.8x kg's of rice and the new quantity is 3 kg more than if he bought with early price Therefore,

360/x + 3 = 360/0.8x , 360/x + 3 = 450/x , (360/0.8x = 450/x on solving) 450/x - 360/x = 3 , 450-360/x = 3 , 90/x = 3 , x = 90/3 , x = 30

Therefore the original price for buying the rice was dollar 30 per kg

Let x be normal price, .8x discounted price and 360/x # of kg .8x(360/x) + 3(.8x) = 360, x = 30

if $X/kg is the original cost, after 20 percent reduction in the whosesale market will brin the price down to $(X-0.2X). Also, we are told that he can now purchase an extra 3 kg of rice with the reduction in price from X to (x-0.2X). Equating this two terms, we get: 360/(X-0.2X)-360/x= 3. Solve for X We get X= 30
