Let CP = 100
MP = 40% more than CP
So, MP = 140
discount = 25%
SP = 140 × 3/4 = 105
Profit = 105 – 100 = 5
Profit % = 5%

may i ask where is that 3/4 come from?

As 25% was given discount the selling price is only 75% of marked price. Which is 3/4 of marked price. Hope this helps.

Srivardhan Kaushik - 7 years, 3 months ago

25% discount means 75% d amt so 75/100=3/4

Samya Chaudhary - 7 years, 2 months ago

It's even more clarified if it's 140 × 75% ....... So you can replace 75% for 3/4............And you don't need to use "may i ask." Because It's your right to ask here...............................

3/4 is just 75%

Assume Cost Price(CP) = 100

Selling Price(SP) = 40% more than CP

Hence SP = 140

Discount is 25%

SP = 140 × 25/100 = 105

Profit = 105 – 100 = 5

Profit % = Profit x 100/CP = 5 x100/100 = 5%

lets assume cost price to be = 100a

the marked price is = 100a X (100 + 40)/100 = 140a [as it is marked 40% more]

now discounted price is = 140a X (100 - 25)/100 = 105a

thus 105a - 100a = 5a......

So net profit is 5%......

For simplicity, assume that the watch costs $ 100 100 .

Because the dealer marks his watches 40 % 40\% above the cost price, the watch costs $ ( ( 1 + 0.4 ) 100 ) = 140 ((1 + 0.4) * 100) = 140 . With a 25 % 25\% discount, the watch costs $ ( ( 1 0.25 ) 140 ) = 105 ((1 - 0.25) * 140) = 105 . Thus, the gain percentage is 1 ( 105 ÷ 100 ) = 0.05 = 5 % 1 - (105 \div 100) = 0.05 = 5\% .

cp =X then ,sp =75/100 x140/100 X =1.05X therefore profit percentage =sp-cp/cp x100 =5%

take the actual price as 100 and the add 25% to it i.e. 100+40=140 Then sub the 25% discount 140-35=105. So,finally the profit percentage will be (105-100/100)/100=5.

Let the cost price be $100 So the the dealer raises the price by 40% Now the price is $140 then he gives 25% off The final price is $105 so the dealer gains $5 per watch So dealer has 5% increase

Here the dealer makes the profit. So, 40% - 25% = 5%.

let CP=1 MP=40% DR=25% Selling Price= (CP x MP) + CP = 1 x 0.4 = 0.4 + 1 = 1.4 DP= SP x DR = 1.4 x .25 = 0.35 1.4 - 0.35= 1.05 1.05 - 1 = 0.5 converted, equals to 5 percent

Markup = 140% of original price then discount = - 25% or = 75% of MP price so final price = 140% x 75% = 105% so gain equals 5%

Hello,

let a=the actual price,

increased price = a + (40%/100%).a = a + 0.4a = 1.4a,

then discount price after the increased is = 1.4a - ( 25%/100% x 1.4a) = 1.4a - 0.35a = 1.05a,

therefore,the dishonest profit is = 1.05a - a=0.05a(0.05 out of actual price), as 0.05 x 100% = 5%.....

thanks...

answer is 15 percent. ..........let the cost price of a watch be x....so selling price =(2/5+1-1/4(2/5+1)) x............=21/20 x.............gain percentage=((selling price - cost price)/c.p) 100........(21/20 -1) 100....=5

Using 100 as a example: 100 + 40% = 140. 140 - 25% = 105. 105 - 100 = 5%.

actual price of watches=100 MRP is 40% more than Actual price MRP=140 discount =25% So selling price=140-(25*140/100)=105 profit 5%

It was easy, Letting the initial value to be equal to 100, 40% initial profit make 140, deducting 25% makes 105 (35 is 25% of 140) Whoop the answer is 5% (105-100=5 obviously)

Suggested Price = orig price + 40% price = 100 + 40 = 140 Price less 25 % = 140 x .25 = 35 Retail Price = 140 - 35 = 105 Profit = Retail price - Suggested price = 105% - 100% = 5%

for every items original price= 100% + 40% increase= 140 actual price actual price - 25% of it = price given to clients = 140-(140 x 25%)=140-(140 x .25)= 105 105-100= 5% significant profit :)

let the first amount of watch is100 he increse 40per (%) which means the value is 140 then he discount 25% which means 140 25/100=35 then the total no. gaind is 5 so the pre is (5/100) 100

Let CP = 100 MP = 40% more than CP So, MP = 140 discount = 25% SP = 140 × 3/4 = 105 Profit = 105 – 100 = 5 Profit % = 5%
