Calculus Level 3

1 2 × 1 2 + 1 2 1 2 × 1 2 + 1 2 1 2 + 1 2 1 2 × = a b π \sqrt{\frac{1}{2}}\times \sqrt{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{\frac{1}{2}}}\times \sqrt{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{\frac{1}{2}}}}\times \cdots = \dfrac{a}{b\pi }

The equation above holds true for coprime positive integers a a and b b , find the value of a 2 + 3 b a^2 + 3b .

The answer is 7.

One hint will suffice and the problem will be over

Put 1/root 2 = cos(45) and see the magic

Firstly you will get an infinite cosine product with angles following a geometric progression

Calculate that product for n terms and then apply Limit approaching infinity.

For calculating that product multiply and divide by sin of smallest angle

Finally we get 2/pi

BTW you preparing for JEE 2017? And which coaching?
