Domino's pizza

Geometry Level 2

Pizzas are (traditionally) circular, and the size of a pizza is described by stating its radius. A 10-inch pizza is a circular pizza with a radius of 10 inches.

Domino can eat a 12-inch pizza in 20 minutes. At the same rate, how long will it take Domino to eat an 18-inch pizza?

The answer is 45.

Note that the time it takes to eat the pizza varies directly with the size. If we try to solve by diameter, however, our calculations will be incorrect, because the size of the pizza is the area, not the radius. Let's instead compare the square of 12 and 18, because that is how many pi there are in the area. Setting up the proportion 144 20 = 324 x \frac{144}{20}=\frac{324}{x} and solving, we see that it takes 45 minutes.

the question was posed no different the mph just a ratio

The trick is based on, pizza is an area not just radius

(pi (18)^2)/(pi (12)^2)*20 = 45

ratio of 18" pizza to 12" pizza is 324/144 = 9/4. so 20 X 9/4 = 45

The problem is related to area of Pizza. area of 12 inches pizza is 22/7(Pai)X6x6( radius is 6 inches)....... I area of 18 inches pizza is 22/7(pai)xX9x9(radius ois 9lnches) ........II
Now,, I takes 20 mts therefore II will take 20X81/36 = 45 minutes
