The simplest formula of a compound is the empirical formula . Consider 10kg of this compound (just to make calculations simple). Moles of X = 5000g/1000g = 5. Moles of Y = 5000g/2000g =2.5. Moles of X = 2 x Moles of Y. Thus simplest ratio is X2Y
