when 2 successive discounts A an B then overall discount = A + B – (AB)/100

= 10 + 10 – 10×10/100 = 19

let the initial cost be 100

then after first discount of 10%, it becomes 90

the after second discount of 10%, it becomes 81

so, total discount=(100-81)%=19%

Its a general formula for that.. a= first discount , b= second discount then total discount = a+b-((a*b)/100)
