Annie left the science museum and drove south. Tony left three hours later driving $42$ km/h faster in an effort to catch up to her. After two hours, Tony finally caught up. Find Annie's average speed.

The answer is 28.

If we set Annie's speed as $s$ and her speed as $t$ , we can find $st=(s+42)(t-3)$ . Because the problem also told us that Tony drove $2$ hours, so $t=5$ .
We can rewrite our equation as $5s=2(s+42)$ . Solving this, we get $\boxed{s=28}$ .
