While I was driving through the countryside, I saw a farmer tending his ducks and pigs in his yard. I was curious to know how many of each he had. I stopped the car and then inquired the farmer.
He replied: "The animals have altogether 60 eyes and 86 feet between them."
How many number of ducks and pigs the farmer had?

Let x=number of ducks
Let y=number of pigs
x has 2 eyes and 2 feet
y has 2 eyes and 4 feet
Total number of eyes=60
Total number of feet=86
From this we can deduce:
Eyes: 2x+2y=60 (x+y=30)
Feet: 2x+4y=86 (x+2y=43)
By solving these as simultaneous equations, subtracting eyes from feet:
y=13
Substituting this into either equation we find x=17
Therefore, the farmer has 17 ducks and 13 pigs
