There lived a Mayor named Brogan. One day he went to a market. There a Pen attracted his mind. The pen is worth 100$ but he didn't has sufficient money. So he went to a man and said "If you give the the same amount of money I have now, I will be able to buy the Pen". The men at once gave him the Money. Mayor bought the Pen. With remaining money he bought a vase and a wallet by the same process. The wallet and vase both cost 100$ each. After getting out from the market there is no money with the Mayor. So, how much money did The mayor has at first time?

true dat, it took me a while...
let x amount he was having. so x he borrowed. after purchasing pen amount remain=2 x-100. this remaining amount again he has to borrow after purchasing vase amount remaining=(2 (2 x)-100) -100. this remaining amount again he has to borrow similarly after purchasing wallet amount remaining= (2 (2 (2 x)-100)-100)-100=0. solve for x=87.5.
yes, but it says the wallet and vase are bought at the same time, and they cost 100$ each. Isn't the answer 100? So he has 100 at first, then someone gaves him another 100. Total 200 - pen 100= 100. Then someone gives him another 100, and he buys the wallet+vase for 200 ... ??
Let x be his original amount. He borrowed x & buys a pen worth 100. So he is left with 2x - 100.
Assume it to be y. ie 2x = 100 + y
By the same process 2y = 100 + z
2z = 100 + 0
Hence z = 50
y = (100+z)/2 = (100+50)/2 = 75
x = (100 + y)/2 = (100 + 75)/2 = 87.5
nice question
Let his money = x .
At the first situation, x < 1 0 0 . So he borrowed x amount of money,
2 x > 1 0 0
The reminder of the money is 2 x − 1 0 0 which is more than 0 , so
2 x − 1 0 0 > 0
And then do the same process twice.
2 x − 1 0 0 < 1 0 0
4 x − 2 0 0 > 1 0 0
4 x − 3 0 0 > 0
But in this process...
4 x − 3 0 0 < 1 0 0
8 x − 6 0 0 = 1 0 0
It's equal to 100 because after this, he got no money left.
8 x − 7 0 0 = 0
Find the value of x: x = 8 7 0 0 = 8 7 . 5
for last case- 50+50=100 so we know before buying last item he had only 50 left with him. 2nd case- 2x-100=50 hence x=75 so in 2nd case he started with 75 similarly in first case money that he had =2y-100=75 hence y=175/2=87.5
What do you think about this solution?
2 1 0 0 = 5 0 ----> last money to buy the third item
2 5 0 + 1 0 0 = 7 5 ----> before the second item was bought
2 7 5 + 1 0 0 = 8 5 ----> original money in hand

Interesting question but the way it was phrased may lead to many misinterpretation.
