In algebra we keep the variable after what you need to multiply with and the rest equations after that
in order :
his father's age is 1st
his mother's is next
and his grandfather's is last
so to the problem
his father's age is first and it is 4 times so = 4x
his mother's is 4 times and 4 less than his father his father's is also 4 times more so = 4x - 4
and his grandfather's is 8 times more so = 8x
so in order : 4x,4x -4,8x
