Let d d be the present age of the doctor. We have

d 8 = 2 3 ( d + 13 ) d-8=\dfrac{2}{3}(d+13)

cross multiply

3 d 24 = 2 d + 26 3d-24=2d+26

simplify

d = 50 d=50
