add every number from each row to a single digit and it will give you 6, add every number from each column to a single digit and it will give you 6. ex: first row 1+5+6+3=15 -> 1+5=6 , first column 1+4+9+1=15 -> 1+5=6 therefor 8 is the answer

Method to answer ?

add the digits of an individual row/column,you will get 15 from each column/row as sum.So, 15-(4+1+2)=15-(5+1+1)=8

Row 2 : 4 , ? , 1 , 2 = 4 + ? + 1 + 2 = 15

Row 3 : 9 , 1 , 2 , 3 = 9 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 15

Row 4 : 1 , 1 , 6 , 7 = 1 + 1 + 6 + 7 = 15

Column 2 : 5 , ? , 1 , 1 = 5 + ? + 1 + 1 = 15

Find the number that will make row 2 and column 2 be equal to 15

This is like a magic square only the diagonals not add up the same

If we add horizontally as well as vertically the sum we get is 15

So in order to fulfill the ? so that the sum becomes 15 the only possible value is 8.

Check: horizontally 5+ 8 +1+1=15 vertically 4+ 8 +1+2=15 thus the answer is 8

Realised the soln after getting you are correct :D. Thought how coulda keypad be keypad without 8 and entered. Then only realized how to solve an the comments too tells the same.

i found it in a funny way.. d sum of digits in 2nd quadrant (6+3+1+2) and 3rd quadrant (9+1+1+1) is 12.. so sum f digits in 1st n 4th quadrant must b same,, (2+3+6+7)=18, (1+5+4+?)=18.. thus 8..

In every column , all numbers are a sum of 15 . So 4+1+2=7 . And 15-7=8 so the question mark is replaced by 8

i guessed 8 at first, because i saw most of the pairs across was multiple of 3, and then i saw all of them wasn't pairs of two, but i realized they added up to a multiple of 3, and i soon realized it was adding up to 15 horizontally and vertically

After looking at other solutions my solution seems too simple as I scanned through all of the numbers to see what appeared (1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 9). I saw that 8 was missing and as they are all single digits it fitted

By remarkable coincidence, there's an alternative solution. The first column has square numbers only, and to keep the pattern going, you need to break them up into two digits. Nine squared is 81, so the 8 is missing.

Look at the top row, add all the numbers of the top row... So that is 1+5+6+3 this equals 15. Now you need to check if the other rows also add up to equal 15. So let's check the last one. 1+1+6+7 equals 15. So 4+ ? + 1 + 2 must equal 15. Let's treat this like algebra. X being the ?

So... 4 + x + 1 + 2 = 15 X= 15 - 4 - 1 - 2 X= 8 So ? = 8

To check the answer is correct. Add up all the numbers of the second column and see if it adds up to 15.

So : 5 + 8 + 1 + 1=15. So ? Must definitely be 8.

The number 8 is justifiable by line addition, yes. I might add that it was my initial gut reaction for a different reason. It's the only missing integer between the largest and smallest integer. My eye for combinatorics had me asking "where's the 8?".
