Easy Qualitative Analysis

Chemistry Level 3

A coloured compound A A reacts with dilute H 2 SO 4 \text{H}_{2}\text{SO}_{4} to produce a colourless gas B B and a colourless solution C C .

The reaction between B B and acidified K 2 Cr 2 O 7 \text{K}_{2}\text{Cr}_{2}\text{O}_{7} solution produces a green solution and a slightly yellowish precipitate D D .

The substance D D burns in air to produce a gas E E which can also change the colour of K 2 Cr 2 O 7 \text{K}_{2}\text{Cr}_{2}\text{O}_{7} solution.

When the colourless solution C C reacts with Pb 3 O 4 / H + \text{Pb}_{3}\text{O}_{4} / \text{H}^{+} , the solution acquires a violet red colour due to the formation of a substance. What is this substance?

MnO 4 \text{MnO}_{4}^{-} PbO 2 \text{PbO}_{2} Haemoglobin None of these [ Ni ( e n ) 3 ] S 2 O 3 [\text{Ni}(en)_{3}]\text{S}_{2}\text{O}_{3} I 3 \text{I}_{3}^{-}
