Easy SHM!

A Particle performing Simple harmonic motion undergoes initial displacement of A / 2 A/2 (Where A A Is amplitude of SHM) in 1 second. at t=0 the particle may be at extreme or mean position.the time period of the simple harmonic motion can be

A) 6 second

B) 2.4 second

C) 12 Second

D) 1.2 second

For the problem writing party

For extreme position,

x = x m c o s ( ω t ) x = x_m cos (ωt) so if x = x m / 2 x = x_m/2 then c o s ( ω t ) = 1 / 2 cos (ωt) = 1/2 giving ω t = π / 3 ωt = π/3 hence t = T / 6 t = T/6 .

For mean position,

x = x m s i n ( ω t ) x = x_m sin (ωt) so if x = x m / 2 x = x_m/2 then s i n ( ω t ) = 1 / 2 sin (ωt) = 1/2 giving ω t = π / 6 ωt = π/6 hence t = T / 12 t = T/12 .

Therefore since t = 1 s t = 1s T T can be 6 6 or 12 12 seconds.

But in text book answer is given 1.1why?
