Knowing that sin ( 4 1 o ) = cos ( 4 9 o ) \sin(41^{o}) = \cos(49^{o}) , we have sin 2 ( 4 9 o ) + cos 2 ( 4 9 o ) = 1 . \sin^{2}(49^{o}) + \cos^{2}(49^{o}) = \boxed{1}.
