Electrolysis -This one's easy!

Chemistry Level 2

After electrolysis of a sodium chloride (NaCl) solution with inert electrodes for a certain period of time,600 mL of the solution was left which was found to be 1N in sodium hydroxide.

During the same time 31.8g of Cu was deposited in a Cu voltmeter in series with the electrolytic cell.Calculate the percentage of theoretical yield of NaOH obtained.

1 solution

No of equivalent of NaOH that can be produced ideally = No of eq. of Cu = 31.8/(63.5/2) g =1 g

No. of eq. of NaOH produced experimentally = NV/1000 =1*600/1000=0.6

% yield =0.6/1 =60 %
