The chemical reaction is electrolysis of water 2H2O ----> 2H2 + O2 Given that 1.12 liter ( 1.12/22.4 mole) of Oxygen was generated, therefore, from the equation, we know that 2 moles of water generates 2 moles of Hydrogen and 1 mole of water. The ratio of hydrogen to water is 2:1. Therefore, the volume of of generated hydrogen is twice the amount or 2 x 1.12L = 2.24 L. Now calculate the atomic weight for (1.12/22.4) mole of water. 1 mole of water contains 36 g of H2O. In 0.05 mole, it contains 0.05 x 36= 1.8 g.
