Engr. Joanna`s Map

Geometry Level 1

A map is drafted by Engr.Joanna to help the people to familiarize themselves to the city and the scale of the map is 1 inch is to 500 meters. if the distance of the city hall to the park is 0.25 inch. Find how many minutes could a worker run from the park to the city hall at the rate of 25m/s ?

The answer is 5.

You meant for how many seconds.

exactly

According to question acceleration is 25m/s^2 because it is written that a worker could run at rate of 25m/s.

The distance from the city hall to the park is 500 m × 0.25 = 125 m. 500\text{m}\times0.25=125\text{m.} The worker would make it to the city hall from the park in 125 25 = 5 \frac{125}{25}=\boxed{5} seconds.

Note: This solves for the number of seconds it would take. It would take 1 12 \frac{1}{12} minutes to get to city hall. The question needs to be reworded.

YES I AGREE THAT THERE SHOULD BE SECONDS IN PLACE OF MINUTES

Even Usain Bolt does somewhere around 10m/s

1 inch in map is equivalent to 500 m in real, so 0.25 inch in map is equivalent to = 500 × 0.25 = 125 =500\times 0.25 = 125 m

Now, speed of worker = 25 =25 m/min

So, Time = D i s t a n c e S p e e d = 125 25 = 5 m i n =\frac{Distance}{Speed} = \frac{125}{25} = \boxed{5} min

P.S. I think the question is a little bit wrong, the speed should be 25 m/min and not 25 m/s because a person on foot cannot have that much speed. Also then the answer doesn't come right.

if 1 inch = 500 m

0.25 inch = 125 m

speed = 25 m/s

distance = 125 m

time = d/s = 125/25 = 5 sec.

but the question is asking in min. so the answer = 5/60 = 0.8333333.......

there is a error,it should have asked seconds instead of minutes,oh i have wasted 5 minutes coincidentally in thinking out any trick in the question

Because 1 inch is equal to 500 meters, .25 inches would equal 125 meters because .25 inches is 1/4 of 1 inch and 125 meters is 1/4 of 500 meters. To figure out how many minutes it would take for a worker to run from the park to the city hall, you would divide 125 by 25, because it's 25m/s. When you divide the two numbers, your final answer is 5.

I also agree that it should be 25m/m. I was just trying to use the words from the question in my solution.

it should be how many seconds and not in minutes because the unit is m/s

if the scales of the map is 1inch:500m and we know that the distance of the city hall to the park is 1/4inch on the map, so we can find the actual distance by 500/4 = 125m. and then devided 125 by 5 now you got the answer! is 5

This goes too bad since the answer was asked in minutes. We know that Brilliant Mathematics answers were in integers from 0 to 999, but how come a question valued with decimals come into the Brilliant Mathematics?

we know that 1 inch = 500 meters there fore , 1 0.5 \frac {1}{0.5} = 500 x \frac {500}{x}

x= 500*0.25 = 125

we know that speed = d i s t a n c e t m e \frac {distance}{tme} there fore , speed = 25m/s distance = 125m

time = 125 25 \frac {125}{25}

time = 5sec

The scale is 1 i n c h : 500 m 1 inch:500 m . And since the distance on the map is 0.25 inch, then its real distance is 500 m 1 i n c h × 0.25 i n c h = 125 m \frac {500 m}{1 inch}\times0.25 inch=125 m . Finally by velocity formula we get T i m e = 125 m 25 m / s Time=\frac {125 m}{25 m/s}

= 5 s =\boxed {5} s
