If there was a single 15 ohm resistor between A and B, the resistance would be 15 ohms. Since there are other paths as well, we know that the overall resistance between A and B must be less than 15. There is only one choice in the list that is less than 15. In this particular case (from the solver's perspective), we don't need to determine what the resistance is . It suffices to know what the resistance isn't .
