In the balanced equation, the stiochometric coefficients of nitric acid and copper are 8 8 and 3 3 respectively. Let M M denote the molecular mass of nitric acid. Then, Equivalent mass of nitric acid = M change in ON per molecule of nitric acid = 8 M change in ON in Cu in balanced equation = 8 M 6 = 84 \text{Equivalent mass of nitric acid }=\frac{M}{\text{change in ON per molecule of nitric acid}}\\=\frac{8M}{\text{change in ON in Cu in balanced equation}}\\=\frac{8M}{6}\\=84
