DU = Degrees of Unsaturation \text{DU = Degrees of Unsaturation} triple bond: 2 D U carbonyl group: 1 D U benzene ring: 4 D U A n s w e r = 2 + 1 + 4 = 7 D U \space \text{triple bond:} \space 2_{DU} \\ \space \text{carbonyl group:} \space 1_{DU} \\ \space \text{benzene ring:} \space 4_{DU} \\ Answer = 2+1+4=\boxed{7_{DU}}

Basically what I did was counted the no. Of H H atoms (here were 8 8 ) while the same equivalent saturated compound with 10 10 carbon atoms would have 22 H 22 H . Hence degree of unsaturation: 22 8 2 = 7 \dfrac{22-8}{2}=\boxed 7 . :-)

Good work determining saturation through the chemical formula.
