Ice floats on the water surface because of only empty spaces between molecules. There doesnt matter the how it is huge enough. as comparatively we see Ice structure is different rather than water molecule.ice has hexagonal structure where as water molecule has tetrahedral structure. One of them hexagonal structure get more space to interact and stability it make empty spaces between molecules ,but in case of water its structure comparatively too closed to each other and in their no any empty space so water gets havier than Ice...and Ice density is do not matter here its same for ice and water in 1000 cm³ or 1dm³.
