As some people may know, the absolute value of a number is the square root of x^2. This is true because x^2 is non-negative, whether x is negative, positive, or zero. After that, the square root of that number will now reset the number back to (plus or minus) the previous number. However, if you plug in 0 to this expression, you will get 0. Because 0 is not positive, you have to add a positive number to it, the simplest being one.
