Check your quadratic formula again. Here is the whole process:
2 a − b ± b 2 − 4 a c 2 × 1 2 4 ± 2 4 2 − 4 × 1 × − 1 2 2 4 ± 5 8 0 2 2 4 ± 4 1 4 5 2 2 4 ± 2 1 4 5 1 2 ± 1 4 5
You would have got 1 4 3 if you did 2 4 2 − 4 for the b 2 − 4 a c part. It is a double negative however, so you must be careful.
