It is not mentioned there that the initial velocity is zero but I highly appreciate your prediction.

Well, for some falling objects problems, objects start at rest so I assume their initial vertical velocity is zero

m g h = 0.5 m v 2 mgh=0.5mv^2

2 g h = v 2 2gh=v^2

2 × 9.8 × 100 = 1960 = v 2 , v 44.3 2\times9.8\times100=1960=v^2,v\approx44.3
