2/12 + 3/6 = 8/12 1 - 8/12 = 12/12 - 8/12 = 4/12

2 12 \frac{2}{12} = 1 6 \frac{1}{6} so 1 6 \frac{1}{6} + 3 6 \frac{3}{6} = 4 6 \frac{4}{6} = 8 12 \frac{8}{12} so 12 12 \frac{12}{12} - 8 12 \frac{8}{12} = 4 12 \frac{4}{12}
