School has organised a farewell party for students (let the number of students be x x ) each student is giving gift to every other students, and if total gifts received were 1560. Find the number of students present there.

Ler total number of students be x x

So each student will give gift to x − 1 x-1 students. So total gifts exchanged is x ( x − 1 ) = 1560 x (x-1) = 1560 On solving the quadratic equation we get x = 40 x=40 .

Each student is giving gift to all other students, that means if there are 5 students then he will give 4 gifts excluding himself. Equation will be: x(x-1)=1560
