Let the capacity of tank be 60 ltr. That means pipe A fills the tank at the rate of 60 20 = 3 \frac{60}{20}=3 ltr per minute & that of B at the rate 60 30 = 2 \frac{60}{30}=2 ltr per minute. When both the pipes are used together, they together fill 2+3=5 ltr water in a minute, thereby filling the tank in 60 5 = 12 \frac{60}{5}=12 minutes.
