Find the marked price

Algebra Level 2

The marked price of two articles A and B together is Rs. 6000.

The sales tax on article A is 8% and that on article B is 10%.

If on selling both the articles, the total sales tax collected is Rs. 552, find the marked price of each of the articles A and B.

A = Rs 2400 & B = Rs 3600 A = Rs 7200 & B = Rs 2400 A = Rs 3600 & B = Rs 7200 A = Rs 3600 & B = Rs 2400

Reading the question, we note that A + B = 6000 A +B = 6000 and 0.08 A + 0.1 B = 552 0.08 A + 0.1 B = 552 . Hence, we can solve the problem using simultaneous equations by multiplying the second equation with 10 -10 and adding both equations: 0.2 A = 480 0.2A = 480 Now we just need to times the equation by 5 5 to get A = 2400 \boxed{A = 2400} and therefore B = 3600 2400 B = 3600 - 2400 and so B = 3600 \boxed{B = 3600} .
