Find the murderer!

Logic Level 3

A recent murder case centered around the six men, Clayton, Forbes, Graham, Holgate, McFee, and Warren. In one order or another these men were the victim, the murderer, the witness, the policeman, the judge, and the hangman. The facts of the case were simple. The victim had died instantly from the effect of a gunshot wound inflicted at close range. The witness did not see the crime committed, but swore to hearing an altercation followed by a shot. After a lengthy trial the murderer was convicted, sentenced to death, and hanged.

  • McFee knew both the victim and the murderer.

  • In court the judge asked Clayton to give his account of the shooting.

  • Warren was the last of the six to see Forbes alive.

  • The policeman testified that he picked up Graham near the place where the body was found.

  • Holgate and Warren never met.

So who was the murderer?

Warren was the last of the six to see forbes alive.

This statement tells us that either warren is murderer or he is the hangman

Holgate and warren never met.

If warren was murder then he should have met holgate in the court or else holgate should be hangman(but if he was hangman he would have met him while hanging him)

This leaves us with one option that warren was hangman and saw forbes die(last)

Warren was the last of the six to see Forbes alive.

So all six saw Forbes. The victim had died instantly.

Warren is the hangman and Forbes the murderer.

The murderer went through the whole ordeal since the moment before the murder until after his execution, so he should have met everyone else, starting with the victim to the last hangman.

"Warren was the last of the six to see Forbes alive."
&
"Holgate and Warren never met."

The possible relationships between Warren and Forbes would be murderer-victim OR hangman-murderer.

But we already established the fact that the murderer would have met everyone else; at the crime scene, in the police station's interrogation room, in the courtroom and in the prison execution cell, so if Warren never actually met Holgate before, that means Warren can't be the murderer.

Warren is the hangman and Forbes the murderer.
