Four rectangles with dimensions 1 × 2 , 2 × 4 , 3 × 4 1\times 2, 2\times 4, 3\times 4 and 3 × 6 3\times 6 are cut on each corner of a square as shown. If the area of this square is 100 100 , find the perimeter of the new polygon.


The answer is 40.

The sides are equal to the sums of the given values as well as 4 sides touching the edges of the square. These are equivalent to 40- the sums of the given values. Adding these together, this simplifies to 40.
