Let the Number be x. Now, x+1=x^2 so, x^2-x-1=0; therefore, x=(1+sqrt(1+4))/2 or (1-sqrt(1+4))/2 Since x >0, x=(1+sqrt(5))/2=1.6180339 ..

x + 1 = x 2 x + 1 = x^2

x = 1.618033989 x = \boxed{1.618033989}
