It's a portion of a multiplication table...

5 6 7 8 7 8 9 35 42 49 40 48 56 45 54 63 56 64 72 \begin{matrix} \quad \quad 5 & \quad 6 & 7 \end{matrix}\quad \quad 8\\ \begin{matrix} 7 \\ 8 \\ 9 \end{matrix}\quad \begin{matrix} 35 & 42 & 49 \\ 40 & 48 & 56 \\ 45 & 54 & 63 \end{matrix}\quad \begin{matrix} 56 \\ 64 \\ 72 \end{matrix}

i take it easy like this haha

35 (+7) 42 (+7) 49 (+7) 56

40 (+8) 48 (+8) 56 (+8) 64

45 (+9) 54 (+9) 63 (+9) 72

In the first row, 35 = 7 × 5 , 42 = 7 × 6 , 49 = 7 × 7 \color{#20A900}{35=7\times5,42=7\times6,49=7\times7} .So the next number must be 7 × 8 = 56 \color{#D61F06}{7\times8=56} only one option begins with 56 which is the answer.

The 35,42, and 49 are numbers that can be devided by 7. 35 is the product when 7 and 5 multipied. Also in 42, which is the product in multiplying 7 and 6. So as 49. I realize that they are just multiply into the next number should be. That's why I get 56. I multiplied 7 to 9.

For the next sets of number, 40, 48, 56 and 45, 54, 63 are just the same process as the first line. Although, in line 40, 48 and 56, 8 is multiplied by 6, 7 and 8 so that the answer in the next of it is 64 because 8 is been multiplied by 9.

Same as the last line. Same process yet multiplied by 9.

If you dont understand my explanation based on what I did to solved this you can see it clearly on a multiplication table. Thanks.

42-35=49-42=7. So the next no. should be 7 more than 49. Similarly in the next two rows, the difference is 8 and 9 respectively. Thus, the nos. must be 56, 64, 72.

  • 49 42 = 7 49-42=7
  • 42 35 = 7 42-35=7

Therefore to get the first part in the next column we must add 7 + 49 = 56 7+49=56 .

Only one answer choice begins with 56 56 , so that must be the answer!
