A r e a o f s q u a r e i n i t i a l l y = a 2 A f t e r i n c r e a s i n g t h e l e n g t h o f e a c h s i d e b y 20 p e r c e n t A r e a o f s q u a r e = ( 1.2 a ) 2 = 1.44 a 2 S o i n c r e a s e % = 0.44 a a 100 = 44 % \\Area\,of\, square \, initially \, = a^2 \\After \, increasing \, the \, length \, of \, each \, side \, by\, 20\, percent \\ Area \, of \, square = (1.2a)^2=1.44a^2 \\ So\, increase\% = \frac{0.44a}{a} * 100 = 44\%
