The surface area of the box is equal to the area of the rectangle minus the areas of the four equal squares.

A = 20 ∗ 14 − 4 ∗ 4 ∗ 4 = 280 − 64 = 216 i n 2 A = 20*14-4*4*4 = 280-64=216~in^2
