3 x 4 + 6 = 10 \sqrt{3x-4} + 6 = 10

or, 3 x 4 = 4 \sqrt{3x-4} = 4

or, ( 3 x 4 ) 2 = ( 4 ) 2 (\sqrt{3x-4})^2 = (4)^2

or, 3 x 4 = 16 3x-4 = 16

or, 3 x = 20 3x = 20

or, x = 20 3 x = \dfrac{20}{3}

a + b = 20 + 3 = 23 a + b = 20 + 3 = \boxed{23}
