Finding m n m-n

Algebra Level 3

If m m and n n are the roots of x 2 10 x + 10 = 0 x^{2}-10x+10=0 , find the value of ( m n ) ( n m ) (m-n)(n-m) .

For a quadratic equation ax²+bx+c=0, where m and n are two roots, m+n= - b/a and m.n= c/a

Here a=1 b=-10 and c=10

Here m+n = - (-10)/1 and m.n=10/1

We need (m-n) (n-m) = -(m-n)²

Also (m-n)²= (m+n) ²- 4(m.n) = 100-40 = 60

Hence -(m-n)² = - 60

Thanks.. Keep smiling.. :) :)

Hey yo,

By completing the square,

you will get 2 roots,

m = 5 + (15)^(0.5),

n = 5 - (15)^(0.5),

Then, (m-n)(n-m) = -60

Thanks....
