A 2 kN block is resting on a rough horizontal surface for which the coefficient of friction is 0.4. Determine the force P (kilonewton) required to cause motion to impend if applied to the block downward at 40° with the horizontal. (round off to two decimal places)

Pcos40 = F = 0.4(Psin40 + 2)

1.92P - 0.64P = 2

1.28P = 2

P = 1.56 kN
