x+x+2+x+8+x-1=29 > x=5 , then 7 , 13, 4 here cathy's age is 5 , lisa 7 , ella 13 & lu 4

X+x+2+x+8 +x-1 =29 so x= 5 x+2 = 7 x+5 = 13 x-1 = 4

Let, Cathy->x , Lucy->x-1, lisa-> x+2, Elli-> x+8 then 4x+9=29 ,or x=5.

mahabubur rahman - 7 years, 1 month ago

just do the sum of their ages in the option

hemant sharma - 7 years, 1 month ago

29 = 4 +5 + 7 + 13.. easy..

just think of it together their age is 29, you only need to understand the question because there is a given gap between them.

suppose cathy = x then Lucy = x-1 lisa = x+2 Ella= (x+2)+6 altogether = 29 so x-1+x+x+2+x+2+6=29 4x+9=29 x=5

x + x-1 + x+2 + x+2+6 = 29 This is the mathematical sentence to be manipulated in order to get the ages of the girls.

let Lucy's age be x given : - Cathy = Lucy +1 = x+1 Lisa = Cathy + 2 = x+1+2 = x+3 Ella = Lisa + 6 = x+3+6 = x+9 total age = 29 29 = x+x+x+x+1+3+9 29 = 4x+13 16 = 4x 4 = x Lucy = x = 4 Cathy = x+ 1 = 5 Lisa = x+ 3 = 7 Ella = x+ 9 = 13

Cathy = X Lucy = X-1 Lisa = X+2 Ella = X+6+2;

X+X-1+X+2+X+8 = 29

4X+9 = 29

4X = 20

X= 5

Cathy = 5 , Lucy = 5-1 = 4 , Lisa = 5+2 =7, Ella = 5+6+2 = 13

if Lucy is x years old, then Cathy is x+1 years old, Lisa is (x+1)+2 years and Ella is ((x+1)+2)+6 years old. The equation is x+x+1+x+3+x+9=29. from that equation, x=4. so Lucy is 4, Cathy is 5, Lisa is 7 and Ella is 13 years old.

let the age of cathy be 'x'.then age of lucy is'x-1' , let lisa's be 'y' and then ella's is 'y+6'.as yella is 2 years older than cathy,then 'y=2+x'and so ella's is 'x+8'.. by adding all these, we get '4x+9=29', 4x=20' 'x=5' hence the ages are- cathy 5 ,lucy4, ella 13 ,lisa7

x+x+1+x+3+x+9=29, 4x+13=29, 4x=16, x=4, Hence the ages are Lucy 4, Cathy 5,Lissa7 and Ella13 years.

x+x+1+x+3+x+9=29 4x+13=29 4x=16 x=4 Therefore 4,5,7,13

my answer would be ,, if lucy is one year younger than cathy, then the answer should be 4 and then cathy should be 5 as of lisa she is two years older than cathy so 5=2 then it would be 7, and then ellen is 6 years older so 13,,well thats my anwer

Let Lucy = x Cathy = y Ella = z Lissa = a And x+y+z+a=29 _eq1 According to given condition: x=y-1 _ eq2 z=a+6 _eq3 a=y+2 _ eq4 Put eq2 and eq3 in eq1:- y-1+y+a+6+a=29 2y+2a+5=29 y+a=12 y=12-a __eq5 put in eq4: a=12-a+2 2a=14 Lissa=a=7 Put in eq3: z=7+6 Ella=z=13 Put a=7 in eq5: y=12-7 Cathy=y=5 Put all in eq1: x+5+13+7=29 x=29-25 Lucy=x=4

let cathys age be x yrs

then lucy becomes( x-1) yrs

and lisa becomes (x+2)

and ella becomes (x+2)+6........[ella is six years older than lisa]

x+(x-1)+(x+2)+(x+2)+6=29

4x=20

x=5

cathy=5yrs

hence only one alternative has the age as 5 yrs

suppose cathy = x then Lucy = x-1 lisa = x+2 Ella= (x+2)+6 altogether = 29 so x-1+x+x+2+x+2+6=29 4x+9=29 x=5

Let suppose cathy is x years old Now according to the given condition: Lucys' age = x-1 lisas' age = x+2 ellas' age = 6+(x+2)

The sum of their ages =29 therefore: (x)+(x+2)+(x-1)+(6+(x+2))=29 So we will get x 5 now put x in the ages of other girls to find their ages respectively.

Let cathy = x then Lucy = x-1 Lisa = x+2 Ella= (x+2)+6 Together = 29 so x-1+x+x+2+x+2+6=29 4x+9=29 x=5

if Lucy is x years old, then Cathy is x+1 years old, Lisa is (x+1)+2 years and Ella is ((x+1)+2)+6 years old. The equation is x+x+1+x+3+x+9=29. from that equation, x=4. so Lucy is 4, Cathy is 5, Lisa is 7 and Ella is 13 years old.
