The balls would travel the exact same distance. Just that Brian's ball would travel longer and higher till it reaches point of zero velocity, but the distance traveled by each ball in the last second will be equal.

tricky tricky with the wording! I like it :-) i was basing it off total distance and not that of the last second. great question
