Just the basic exponential rules.

(-1)^-1=1/(-1)=-1 no need to use the rules of exponent at all

Actually yes you do because you need to know how to calculate negative exponents in order to solve the equation. Thanks for the solution, btw.

=(-1)/1=-1

=-1^-1 = 1 / -1 = (1 -1)/(-1 -1) = -1/1 = 1

So you managed to switch the integers around, however the answer is still negative because when you divide a positive by a negative (or vice versa) the answer is negative.
