Fussy Eaters

Logic Level 2

Four friends - Eddie, Freddie, Gary and Harry - are sitting at a restaurant, with four plates of food in front of them - A,B,C and D. Out of the four of them, one is a vegetarian, one is a vegan, one is a pescetarian, and one will eat anything. In some order, the four plates of food in front of them are roast chicken, pan-fried salmon, egg omelette and tofu burger. However, they can't decide who should have what but here is what they say:

The waiter: "Plate A does not contain the salmon"

Eddie: "I like the look of plate B"

Freddie: "I like the look of exactly 3 of the meals"

Gary: "I like the look of plate D, but definitely not plate B"

Harry: "I like the look of the salmon"

Can you work out who to give plate C to?

Note: Vegetarians don't eat meat, Vegans don't eat meat or anything else from animals (e.g. eggs), Pescetarians eat fish but not other meat

From the clues we can infer:

  1. Harry can eat fish.
  2. Freddie is a pescetarian (excluding only roast chicken)
  3. From 1. and 2. , since only one of them is pescetarian, Harry is the one with no restrictions.
  4. From 2. and 3. , Eddie and Gary are either vegetarian or vegan (Deciding which of Eddie/Gary is vegan is shown later.)
  5. Eddie likes plate B so B is either egg omelette or tofu Burger.
  6. Gary has a restriction against plate B so B is either egg omelette, salmon or chicken.
  7. From 5. and 6. , plate B is the egg omelette.
  8. From 6. and 7. , Gary is vegan and Eddie is vegetarian.
  9. Gary likes plate D, so D is tofu burger.
  10. Waiter says A is not salmon, so dish A is roast chicken
  11. From 7. , 9. and 10. , plate C is salmon.
  12. From 2. and 11. , F r e d d i e \boxed{Freddie} should be the one having plate C.
