Let y = AS = SC. By the Law of Cosines, 4 = x^2+y^2-2 x y cos(C). However, Cos(C) = (2y) / (4 x). Therefore, by substitution, 4 = x^2 + y^2 - 2 x y (2 y)/(4*x), or x^2 = 4, or x = 2.
