Gas vs Diesel?

Algebra Level 1

I have two cars.
One of them runs on gas, one of them runs on diesel.
The diesel car gets 45 miles per gallon, the gas car gets 35 miles per gallon.
Diesel costs $4.87 per gallon, gas costs $3.68 per gallon.
If I only have $25.00 to spend on fuel, which car will allow me to drive further?

The car that runs on diesel There is not enough information to tell Both cars can go the same distance The car that runs on gas

The diesel car runs 45 miles/gallon, and cost of per gallon diesel is $4.87. As the driver has only $25, he can afford 25/4.87 =5.133 gallons. and 5.133 gallons diesel can take him 45 5.133 miles =230.985 miles.. When we do the same for gas car as well, we find that it can take you 237.77 miles which is greater. So,gas car can make you travel more distance.................................... 25/3.68 =6.79 gallons. and 6.79 35=237.77 miles. [solution for gas car.]

good solution dude.

The fastest solution is here: diesel: 45/4.87 = 9.24, gas: 35/3.68 = 9.51; As you can see, the gas "ratio" is greater than diesel, so for $25 you can travel more distance using gas car.

The diesel car runs 45 miles/gallon, and cost of per gallon diesel is $4.87. As the driver has only $25, he can afford 25/4.87 =5.133 gallons. and 5.133 gallons diesel can take him 455.133 miles =230.985 miles.. When we do the same for gas car as well, we find that it can take you 237.77 miles which is greater. So,gas car can make you travel more distance.................................... 25/3.68 =6.79 gallons. and 6.7935=237.77 miles. [solution for gas car.]

Diesel Car: $ 25 / $ 4.87 × 45 = 231 m i l e s \$25/\$4.87 \times 45=231miles

Gas Car: $ 25 / $ 3.68 × 35 = 238 m i l e s \$25/\$3.68 \times 35=238miles

Therefore, the gas car can go further.

Diesel car in 1$ can go upto 45/4.87 miles similarly
Gas car in 1$ can go upto 35/3.68 miles ,So in 25$
Diesel car will cover 25 45/4.87 =231 miles and
Gas car will cover 25
35/3.68=237.77 miles distance
So gas car will cover more distance

If the car can travel 35 miles per gallon of gas,one gallon costs $3.68.The driver has $25.00 he can buy 25/3.68= 6.7 gallon of gas which let him to travel 237.77 milles where as the diesel costs 4.87 per gallon so the driver can buy 25/4.87 = 5.13 gallon which let him to travel 231.00 milles there fore gas will let him to travel more further then diesel.

You can go by this way as well. 25/4.87<25/3.68 ........(since 4.87>3.68)

hence even if you multiply answer by 45 and 35,

you are going to get answer that car on gas will go further.

for Diesel : with 25 Dollars, one can buy 25/4.87 ( that is 5.13) gallon fuel

so, distance travelled with 1 gallon is 45 mile '' " " 5.13 gallon is = (45*5.13) mile = 230.85 mile so d1 = 230.85 mile

for gas :

with 25 dollars, one can buy 25/3.68 ( that is 6.8) gallon fuel so, distance travelled with 1 gallon is 45 mile '' " " 6.8 gallon is = (35*6.8) mile = 238 mile so d2 = 238 mile

since d2>d1. gas is the answer

If the disel car moves 45 miles per 1 gallon and it coasts 4.87 per gallon so if we put disel with 25 $ it will move 231.006 because number of the mone that he gets X number of miles devided the price of 1 gallon (4.87)= number of miles that the cars can move with 25 $ of diesel if we did the sam thing with the gas car it will be 237.77 miles so the gas car will move further

For diesel car: $25/$4.87/gal = 5.122 gal * 45 miles/gal = 230.532 miles For gas car: $25/$3.68/gal = 6.793 gal * 35 miles/gal = 237.771 miles Therefore the car that uses gas can travel longer distance

Diesel $ 25,00 / $ 4,87 ≅ 5,1 gallons x 45 miles = 229,5 miles. Gas $ 25,00 / $ 3,68 ≅ 6,8 gallons x 35 miles = 238 miles.
