Given rectangle A B C D ABCD with dimensions 4 × 8 4 \times 8 . Four lines A G , B H , C E AG,BH,CE and D F DF are drawn from each vertex to each opposite side. What is the area of the parallelogram at the center?

Consider the diagram. The area of the biggest parallelogram is 6 ( 8 ) = 48 6(8)=48 . The area of one small triangle is 48 30 = 1.6 \dfrac{48}{30}=1.6 . Therefore the area of the parallelogram at the center is 4 ( 1.6 ) = 6.4 4(1.6)=6.4 .
