Let's first look at the second and third statements:
2: The gold is not in here
3: The gold is in box 2.
Because they are saying opposite things, we know that one of them must be telling the truth. Now box 1 says " The gold is not in here ". But we know that the statement must be false, proving that the gold IS actually in there.
