Nina has a collection of Barbie dolls. She gives half of those dolls to her cousin, and sells 20% of what's left. She now has 12 dolls. How many dolls did she originally have?

One way of doing this is work backwards. If she sold 20% of them, whats left is 12. Therefore, x- 0.2x=12. x= 15. Since 15 is what she has left after giving half away, this means she started off with 30.
